"Kyiv Fresco: Elegy for Ukraine" is a composition by Ergo Phizmiz using cello, synthesisers, and samples from the films "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" and "Kyiv Frescoes" by Sergei Parajanov, the Armenian director who celebrated Ukrainian culture and spent many years in prison in consequence.
The image used for the cover is a painting by Ukrainian artist Maria Primachenko. Many of her paintings were destroyed in the first days of the war.
The composition begins in the current turbulence but ends, as these things must, with hope, and aims to celebrate the uniqueness of Ukrainian culture and identity.
